Write a first message that gets a reply

Most first messages get ignored. "Hi" gets ignored. "How are you" gets ignored. Here's what actually works — and why.

What doesn't work

  • "Hi" / "Hello" / "Salam" alone — she's received twenty of these today
  • Compliments about her appearance — low-adab, lazy, gets screenshot and shared
  • Long biographies — she hasn't asked yet
  • Generic "I'm looking for a wife" with no sign you read her profile
  • Anything that looks copy-pasted

What does work

Open with salam. Then one short sentence showing you read her profile specifically — not "I liked your profile" but something particular about what she wrote.

Then one question tied to what caught your attention. Make it easy to answer.

Close with your name. Sign off properly.

A concrete example

Imagine she wrote that she's studying to become a midwife and values family involvement.

Weak: "Salam, hope you're well, you seem nice. Are you looking for marriage?"

Better: "Salam sister. I read that you're working toward becoming a midwife — mashallah, that's meaningful work. Was that something your family encouraged, or something you discovered yourself? — Mohammed"

The second message is specific, respectful, shows you paid attention, opens a real conversation, and signs off properly.

Keep it short

Three or four sentences maximum for the first message. More than that feels like a cover letter.

She can tell if you copy-pasted from the structure, even if the content is customized. Short and specific beats long and impressive.

What to do if she doesn't reply

Wait. Don't double-message within 24 hours. Don't send a follow-up saying "did you get my message?"

If she doesn't reply at all, that's the reply. Move on with dignity.

If she replies a week later, no problem — she was busy or thinking. Pick up the conversation where it started, not with "finally."

A good first message isn't clever. It's specific, short, and respectful. That's the whole trick.
